Welcome Madjeen Isaac!

My name is Madjeen Isaac and I’ve recently joined the Haiti Cultural Exchange teams as a Program Associate. I am an artist and community arts educator based in Flatbush Brooklyn and my work investigates and commemorates Caribbean Diasporic culture and stories within the communities I occupy. I am also an alum of the Fashion Institute of Technology and New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development.

In 2018, I was an HCX Lakou NOU artist in residence working in Flatbush. My project entailed working closely with youth from Haitian American United in Progress, as I facilitated art making workshops guiding youth to explore parts of their culture and upbringing as first-generation Americans.

I am excited to be a part of the HCX team because I value how diligently they’ve worked and continue to highlight and preserve Haitian arts and culture within Brooklyn. I often recall back to 2016 when I attended my first HCX event in collaboration with Kriyol Dance! Collective called Lavi Miyò. I was in awe of the dance performance which enacted themes of resistance, power, and revolution; and I appreciated the community that formed within the venue space to witness and celebrate Haitian arts and culture.

As a Lakou NOU alum and artist interested in community work, I look forward to aiding in strengthening the team’s efforts in community programming and engagement for the Haitian Diaspora, residents and visitors!
