On Saturday May 15, 2021 at BKLYN Commons, Haiti Cultural Exchange hosted their annual Haitian Flag Day Selebrasyon! for Haitian Heritage Month; honoring several community organizations for their extraordinary work on the frontlines during the pandemic.
Community organizations along with their executive directors and leaders that were acknowledged included: Betty Aristide-Augustin of Ede Youth, Natacha Chloe of ANS Association, Kelynne J. Edmond of Haitian American Nurses Association, Carine Jocelyn of Diaspora Community Services, Nathalie Michel of Haitian American Law Enforcement Fraternal Organization, Andre Peck of Haitian Community Coalition, Elsie Saint-Louis of Haitian Americans United for Progress and Jeffery Joseph of Radio Pa Nou.
The event featured an evening-long live performance by Haitian Jazz band, Mozayik, and guest performances from Sherlee Skai and Clints Pavelus. Haitian bites were catered by GRANDCHAMPS restaurant; and raffle prizes were presented from the HCX Boutik, Boukman Rhum, Bonbon Lakay, and Bazile Sauce.
This celebratory event was made possible through partnership with Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte, Council Member Farah N. Louis, and Little Haiti BK. Despite the uncertainties of the pandemic, their leadership, and the Haitian Flag Day Selebrasyon! affirmed the growing support and perseverance New York City’s Haitian community continues to withhold for immigrants and first generations in the Diaspora.
