Spoken word artist Gina Athena Ulysse brings her expressive and thought-provoking “alterednative” performance to Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU. Born in Petionville, Haiti, Professor Ulysse teaches Anthropology and African American studies at Wesleyan University. Her provocative poetry revels in giving rhythm and rhyme to the Haitian Diaspora. Dancer Penniel Guerrier studied and researched Haitian folklore at L’Ecole Nationale des Arts in Port-au-Prince and toured the world with the National Dance Theatre of Haiti. Since immigrating to the United States, Penniel has taught and performed in various dance centers and schools, including the Connecticut Ballet Center.
