On July 31, Bridge Culture presented free live performances representing Haiti at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier One. Haiti Cultural Exchange is proud to have contributed to an event promoting cultural exchange throughout NYC.
Jennifer Celestin Storytelling Jennifer Celestin is Haitian-American and was born and reared in Brooklyn, NY. At 14 she was accepted to National Book Foundation’s Writing Camp and began to seriously study expression through the written word. She performed her own works, focusing on the Haitian relationship to water both in poetry and on the island.
Peniel Guerrier Dance Company Dance Peniel Guerrier began his formal dance training in 1987. He and his dance troupe Tamboula performed traditional Haitian dances, and even invited the kids in the audience to join them on stage.
Buyu Ambroise & Blues in Red Band Music Buyu Ambroise was born in Port-au-Prince. He and the Blues in Red Band performed a fusion of Haitian music traditions with contemporary jazz.
